Union Bank Headquarters

The project for the new Union Bank headquarters in Tirana is conceived as a contemporary urban landmark, capable of representing the institution’s identity while contributing to the transformation of the Albanian capital’s skyline. The building, a twenty-storey office tower located in a central and strategic context, engages with the existing urban fabric while introducing a recognizable and contemporary architectural language. The concept originates from the reinterpretation of local architectural elements and patterns, translated into a contemporary design approach to create an iconic building that expresses institutional solidity, architectural quality, and environmental efficiency. The tower is not only the bank’s operational headquarters, but also a symbolic presence, reflecting an institution oriented toward the future and committed to sustainability.

From a compositional perspective, the building is defined by interconnected and slightly offset vertical volumes, overcoming the rigidity of a monolithic block and generating a dynamic and slender configuration. The main volume is characterized by soft geometries that emphasize verticality, while secondary volumes introduce depth and perceptual variation. As the tower rises, it articulates through terraces and sky gardens that reduce its visual impact and define an elegant skyline profile, culminating in a panoramic green space at the top. The façade system features rhythmic vertical fins, parametrically designed according to solar exposure. These elements act both as shading devices and compositional features, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. The integration of greenery plays a key role: terraces and rooftop gardens improve the microclimate and reinforce the bank’s sustainable identity. The ground floor is conceived as a transparent and permeable podium, establishing continuity with the public realm through a glazed façade that enhances openness and accessibility.
