Hunnu City
SOA Architecture is part of the winning team, led by Bechu & Associés, in the international competition for the masterplan of Hunnu City, a new visionary city in Mongolia. Spanning 31,503 hectares and planned for development through 2045, the city aligns with the national Vision 2050 strategy, aiming to strengthen economic sovereignty, climate resilience, and cultural identity. Located near Chinggis Khaan International Airport, Hunnu City is conceived as a model of regenerative urbanism, adapted to extreme climatic conditions and rooted in the heritage of the Hünnü people.
The project is based on a biomimetic and cultural approach, expressed through the concept “A new steppe of constellation.” The city emerges from careful observation of the land, developing as a living organism through the integration of natural and human flows: water, energy, biodiversity, and soft mobility.
At the core of the masterplan are the Amid Od, or stars of life, circular hubs inspired by the Mongolian ger that structure the city as an urban constellation. These multifunctional centers — cultural, social, and energy hubs — support everyday life while enabling access to key services within a 15-minute city model, including healthcare, education, work, and public spaces.
The urban structure develops through gradients: higher density and vibrancy near the Amid Od, gradually dissolving into agricultural landscapes and the steppe. This cellular system transforms Hunnu City into an adaptive urban organism, capable of addressing contemporary environmental and social challenges while proposing a sustainable, resilient, and context-driven model of urban living.

A masterplan born from the land: a biomimetic, cellular and regenerative city. The “Amid Od”, stars of a new constellation where progress and nomadic heritage coexist in harmony.
